Women’s Work showed significant development, transitioning from its previous state where it rented a room from the Derby Women’s Centre twice a week for drop-in sessions to establishing its own dedicated location, having used funding to set up its own offices.
This new, independent centre on Charnwood Street provided a broad spectrum of vital support; it offered a basic IT course, online learning, help with filling in forms for benefits, housing or job applications, and facilitated specialised care, as staff from Addaction came in to give drug assessments.
The critical need for these services within the community was clearly demonstrated by its high usage, as in the five months up to February 2005, Women’s Work had been visited 217 times by prostitutes.
